Join the Washington County Master Gardener Association's Speaker Series, as Kim Hummer, PhD, research horticulturist with the USDA National germplasm repository discusses how gene bank repositories preserve genetic diversity of thousands of traditional crop varieties and their wild species.

Dr. Hummer is actively studying the taxonomy, horticultural identity and diversity of berry crops. She has a PhD in horticulture from Oregon State University and an honorary doctorate from Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences. She is the research leader and specialty crop curator for the USDA ARS National clonal germplasm repository.
