Learn about the Marshall Scholarship for graduate study in the UK! Meet three Marshall alumni and hear about their experiences as scholars:

Sandra Dorning is a 2018 Marshall Scholar from Gresham, Oregon. Sandra completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oregon, where she majored in Marine Biology, minored in Political Science, and was selected as a 2015 NOAA Hollings Scholar. After developing a research background in marine ecology, Sandra embarked on the Marshall Scholarship to pursue her interdisciplinary interests in marine science and environmental policymaking at national and international scales. As a Marshall Scholar, Sandra first completed an MSc in Marine Environmental Management at the University of York in England, where she studied marine spatial management in the form of fisheries regulations and marine protected areas. In her second year of the scholarship, Sandra pursued an MSc in Global Environment, Politics and Society at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where she researched the ongoing negotiations of a UN treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the high seas.

Dr Becca Farnum is the Assistant Director for Outreach & Engagement at Syracuse University London, where she teaches on themes of global justice and anti-racism. Past projects have involved drafting legal policy for the United Nations; supporting environmental diplomacy initiatives in the Middle East; and serving a stint in the Obama White House. As a 2012 EPA Marshall Scholar, Becca studied water security at the University of East Anglia, international law at the University of Edinburgh, and environmental peacebuilding at King's College London.

As a 1992 Marshall Scholar, Doug Spaniol studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. In 2012 he taught at the University of York (UK) and conducted research as a Fulbright Scholar. He is currently Professor of Music at Butler University, Instructor of Bassoon at Inter
